Nearly everyone is excited for this summer, summer of ’09, especially with the recently beautiful weather. June is going to be absolutely amazing, and then July is going to hit, and boredom will set in. Reflecting on my summer of ’08 (said to be the best yet, as it usually goes) I realized that I did only one exciting thing. I then decided that this summer really was going to be one to remember. Personally my summer is going to consist of Relay for Life (which is something that everyone should get involved in if they can), going to Colorado for a Student Council conference, going to a summer workshop for Student Council, and finding a job down the shore. In between all of that I would like to make some time to go to a concert as I suggest for all of you. Most people don’t realize, while they are sitting at home in their air-conditioned house, just how much they are missing out on. There are thousands of things to do during the summer.
The first, and hopefully, most obvious is a trip to the beach. Whether you go with your family or take a road trip with a carload of friends, a trip to the New Jersey shore is always a great time. If you venture to Ocean City or Wildwood you can walk the boards for a bite of dinner before you leave while picking up a souvenir for ol’ mom and dad. If you feel like shopping or just going for a stroll in the salty air you can head over to Cape May or Stone Harbor. Cape May, in my opinion, is the true Jersey Shore. It has such a summery and turn of the century feel to it.
As all of you should know, summer is a time when many musicians tour our great country. Jimmy Buffet is a known leader of the parrot-heads and tours every summer for his loyal followers. He is touring all over the nation but will be at two locations in New Jersey: Camden and Atlantic City. On a different note Taylor Swift and Keith Urban will be at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on the 1st of August and tickets are on sale now. Lastly Sir Elton John and Billy Joel will be touring this summer and make an appearance at the home of our Fighting Phillies- Citizen Bank Park.
Speaking of Citizen Bank Park, why not take a trip to a baseball game. There are around eighty home baseball games in a single season and a ticket can be bought for as little as eighteen dollars. If you get a big group of friends together and venture down to the “park” you can have a blast just sitting up in the seats and enjoying the game. So pick a day, get a group, and take them out to the ball game.
My last suggestion: see a show! If you have saved up some money from that job you’ve been working relentlessly at do not go to the first store you see and spend it all on unnecessary items. Instead, plan a day to travel to the city and see a show! You can see a Broadway show for as little as seventy dollars a ticket! From mid-May to mid-July The Producers will be shown at the Walnut Street Theatre. At the Kimmel Center in May Movin’ Out and in June Spring Awakening will be shown.
There are many options for the average, bored, Horsham teenager, but sometimes they are not so clear. Hopefully this blog gave you some ideas about how wonderful summer of ’09 will be! Information on any ideas given can be found:
